Esprit CAM, part of Hexagon’s Manufacturing Intelligence division, has introduced a new CAM technology which improves the productivity for long part machining, such as shafts and axles, giving manufacturers the flexibility required to exploit multi-spindle and multi-channel CNC multitasking machinery.
Hexagon’s ESPRIT CAM has introduced ESPRIT TNG 4.7, the latest version of its computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) platform.
According to ESPRIT CAM, the new update will help with the machining of complex parts by automatically tracking the location of work offsets. For 3-axis operations, the new update can generate a toolpath 20x faster, completing in about two minutes what had previously taken 30. The new 3-axis toolpath can now be created from existing operations without recalculations. The new software also brings greater accuracy in the simulation of spindle transfers and bar pulls to allow for multi-tasking machinery that creates error-free toolpaths.
ESPRIT TNG 4.7 also enables manufacturers to perform face-milling operations with a so-called “roll-in” lead-in strategy to increase surface quality, reduce cycle time and extend tool life. This positions the cutter for ideal thick-to-thin chip formation while reducing vibration and maintaining a consistent surface finish. The process is less damaging to cutter inserts, eliminates manual calculations of face-milling stepovers, and ensures a consistent surface across the entire workpiece.

• Optimized machining with a digital twin, which includes awareness of a machine’s capacities such as axis limits, turning options, kinematic chain, and more
• Stock automation so that every single machining operation can be stock-aware to reduce air cutting
• A new ribbon-style interface and 64-bit support for GPU computing and multi-threading
• Modeless programming and machine swap that enables switching between milling and turning processes on any mill, lathe or millturn machine from different machine manufacturers
• Safety and collision avoidance that analyzes the entire machine environment and simulates potential collisions, axes overtravel, acceleration exceptions, and channel conflicts
