ThinkDesign 2026.1

ThinkDesign 2026.1 is a professional 3D CAD modeling, mechanical design, and product development software developed by DPT (Design, Production & Technology). It provides an integrated design environment combining parametric solid modeling, advanced surface modeling, hybrid modeling, 2D drafting, assembly management, and reverse engineering.

ThinkDesign 2026.1 introduces enhanced Full Hybrid Modeling, improved assembly performance, advanced fillet operations, optimized 2D graphics, and expanded CAD file compatibility. These capabilities help engineers and industrial designers create complex geometries, streamline product development, and improve design flexibility.

Key Features of ThinkDesign 2026.1

  • Advanced 3D Solid Modeling: Create and modify complex mechanical components using parametric features, direct editing, Boolean operations, and history-based modeling techniques.
  • Full Hybrid Modeling: Work with BRep solids containing both parametric surfaces and triangular mesh faces. Combine traditional CAD geometry with mesh-based models in a unified design environment.
  • Global Shape Modeling (GSM): Modify complex shapes while maintaining design continuity and geometric relationships. GSM technology enables designers to perform extensive shape modifications without rebuilding entire models.
  • Enhanced Assembly Management: Handle large assemblies with improved performance, component mating operations, simplified representations, and enhanced duplicate-component management.
  • Advanced Surface Modeling: Create complex freeform surfaces using lofting, blending, sweeping, surface continuity controls, and other specialized modeling tools.
  • Improved Edge Fillet Operations: Apply constant-radius and variable-radius fillets with enhanced collision handling, reducing modeling failures when working with complex solid geometries.
  • Integrated 2D Drafting: Generate detailed engineering drawings, dimensions, annotations, sectional views, and manufacturing documentation directly from 3D models.
  • Reverse Engineering Tools: Import and process scanned mesh data, reconstruct surfaces, and convert physical product geometries into editable CAD models.
  • Sheet Metal Design: Design sheet metal components with bending operations, thickness controls, and flat-pattern development for manufacturing.
  • Mold and Die Design: Support mold development through advanced surface manipulation, draft analysis, parting geometry, and solid modeling tools.
  • CAD Data Exchange: Import and export engineering models through supported formats, including STEP, IGES, STL, Parasolid, CATIA, SolidWorks, Siemens NX, and other CAD standards.
  • Engineering Visualization and Analysis: Evaluate model properties, surface quality, geometric continuity, interference conditions, and assembly relationships using integrated analysis tools.

These features support flexible mechanical design workflows across manufacturing, automotive engineering, industrial equipment, and product development. DPT

What’s New in ThinkDesign 2026.1?

1. Enhanced Full Hybrid Solid Modeling

ThinkDesign 2026.1 introduces expanded support for Full Hybrid Solids, allowing parameterized surfaces and triangular meshes to coexist within the same BRep solid.

The improvements extend hybrid modeling capabilities to additional solid editing, feature creation, construction, and interference-checking operations.

2. Improved Large Assembly Performance

The updated assembly environment provides:

  • Faster mating operations for large assemblies.
  • Improved duplicate-component name management.
  • Enhanced component conflict resolution.
  • Better visual feedback when identifying duplicate components.
  • Improved handling of lightweight assembly representations.

According to DPT, mating operations can be up to twice as fast in supported large-assembly scenarios.

3. Advanced Variable-Radius Fillets

The Edge Fillet command now handles collisions between variable-radius fillets and sharp solid edges more effectively, improving the reliability of complex mechanical modeling operations.

4. Optimized 2D Graphics

ThinkDesign 2026.1 restores multi-viewport functionality for drawing documents while maintaining the performance improvements of its updated 2D graphics engine.

Users can also configure their preferred graphics adapter through the software settings.

5. Expanded CAD Format Compatibility

The 2026.1 release updates support for several major CAD formats, including:

  • SolidWorks 2026
  • Autodesk Inventor 2026
  • CATIA V5-6R2025
  • Siemens NX 2512
  • Parasolid 38
  • JT 10.9
  • Creo 12.4
  • ACIS 2025

Support varies by format and import/export component.

6. Improved Software Stability

Additional updates improve software reliability, modeling robustness, and performance when working with complex geometries and large engineering projects.
