LightTools 2026.03 is the latest release (2026) of the industry-leading 3D illumination design and simulation software from Keysight Technologies (formerly Synopsys Optical Solutions). It is widely used for the design, analysis, and optimization of illumination systems, including automotive lighting, architectural lighting, displays, AR/VR waveguides, LEDs, projectors, and medical optics.

LightTools combines powerful solid modeling, fast non-sequential ray tracing, optimization, and photorealistic rendering in a single environment.

• GPU-Accelerated Forward Ray Tracing — Significant performance gains (10× to 50× faster depending on the model) with broad support for sources, materials, scattering, and receivers.
• VisionSym Integration for Real-Time Visualization — GPU-accelerated backward ray tracing enables fast, interactive luminance visualization with progressive refinement and automatic aiming.
• Enhanced Stray Light Analysis — New tools for ray path import/export, filtered analysis, surface grouping, and Ray Path Analyzer improvements for better repeatability and efficiency with complex CAD models.
• AR Waveguide Designer Enhancements — Automated coupler/waveguide setup, K-space visualization, spatially varying gratings (RSoft integration), uniformity/eyebox analysis, and stray light tools.
• Meta-Optic Lens Modeling — New capabilities for metasurfaces, including phase/transmission analysis, RSoft meta-atom library support, and polarization handling.
