Simufact Forming v2024

Simufact Forming

Specialised forming simulation software for virtual testing and process design for component optimisation

Simufact Forming is a full-fledged simulation software for metal forming processes. It covers all important areas of forming technology: hot forging, cold forming, extrusion, sheet metal forming, rolling, ring rolling, spinning, free forging, etc. Simufact Forming helps the user to predict forming defects, microstructures, mold stresses, material flow, and changes in material properties during conventional heat treatment and induction heating.

Simufact Welding is suitable for the simulation of various fusion and pressure welding processes, and can consider the influence of process parameters such as welding sequence and welding fixture on the weld quality.Simufact Welding has a new module “Direct Energy Deposition”, which can be used for the simulation of additive manufacturing processes by metal energy deposition. Simulation. In addition, Simufact Welding can model fixture unloading, cooling, post-welding stress relief, heat treatment, etc. Simufact Welding has a variety of built-in calculation methods that allow the user to control the speed and accuracy of the calculations as needed.

Simufact Additive is a process simulation and analysis software specially designed for metal powder bed fusion additive manufacturing. The software adopts macroscopic intrinsic strain technology, which can quickly obtain the simulation results and predict the results of stress and deformation, etc. The software can also be used to simulate the process of fixture unloading, cooling, post-welding stress relief and heat treatment.

What’s New in Simufact Forming 2024.2

Release Highlights

  • Python Scripting Extension for Resistance Spot Welding
We’ve expanded the Python functionalities in Simufact Forming to enable Design of Experiments (DoE) studies of resistance spot welds. Enjoy automatic measurement of different joining variants, advanced automated postprocessing, and the addition of critical electromagnetic properties definitions via Python scripting. With this handy tool, welding engineers, manufacturing firms, and scholars can fine-tune their welding parameters, reduce labor costs, and gain an in-depth understanding of spot welding properties while significantly increasing production speeds.
  • Resistance Spot Welding Upgrades
We’ve expanded the automated measurement capacity in resistance spot welding to up to 4 sheets and incorporated an electrode geometry database. Now, welding operators and engineers can enjoy greater versatility, efficient selection processes, improved visualization in the process tree, and more efficient operations.
  • Introduction of Hybrid Contact
Our new contact type, the “hybrid contact,” has been integrated for all Finite Element (FE) process types. This addition optimizes handling of contact between deformable bodies and self-contact events during simulations, providing a more accurate simulation experience for engineers and scientists working with FE simulations.
  • Enhanced Sheetmesher
Keeping in mind uniformly dimensioned sheets that might result in inaccurate surface detection, we’ve updated the ‘Sheetmesher’ to include a user-selectable surfaces feature accessible prior to initial meshing. This addition allows users to manually select and save surfaces, offering immense precision and control over the processes, thereby optimizing meshing.
  • Refreshed QT Libraries
The Simufact Forming 2024.2 update comes with refreshed QT libraries, offering enhanced speed and performance improvements. Please note that the discontinuation of the fallback feature for 3D acceleration in graphics may cause startup or project-opening crashes via a Windows Remote Desktop connection. However, these issues can be fixed by enabling GPU rendering over Remote Desktop on Windows 10/11

Apart from these notable highlights, we’re also introducing a new Python function to create and modify input and material files before analysis, a Python ‘InitialConditions’ class for defining material phases, distinctive icons for electrode processes, and much more.

Our continuous efforts are directed towards innovation and user-friendly solutions. We believe the Simufact Forming 2024.2 Release caters to these principles and will be a substantial aid in your work process.
